Combating rural poverty might require a radical shift in development policy

Why is poverty so persistent in rural communities in Africa? Where have we gone wrong despite the massive injection of aid into African economies? What are we lacking in our policy platforms? Are we actually on the right track on the Millenium Development Goals(MDGs) as set out by the UN? These and many other questions could be very distant to you. From a strategic point, you're part of the value system. There are many things why we are seemingly failing to solve the equation.

While in aggregate terms we have moved in the right direction, our momenutm needs a radical policy shift because the ground has shifted a little. The demographic challenges of the 1960's are different from those of today.

It is this reason, I and my friends we started Rockford Harris Group, an institutional and social enterprenuership development group of young professionals with a passion for community development. To many of us this is a hobby. We have a strong connection to our communities because our past is passionately linked to these communities. It is from these communities that we have been lucky to attain the opportunities that we enjoy today. And it is not because we are special as individuals but today we recognize we occupy a special place where many of our friends, sisters, brothers have not been able to attain.

It is this understanding that drives our passion to learn, to develop and lead our communities through identification of community problems and thinking of innovative solutions to these problems. That is what Rockford Harris Group stands for.Join an adventurous community of change makers in building your community today.
